Celebrating 50 years of magnificent effort on behalf of the community!
|

The Center on Mercer St in Mill Hill was opened in 1958 and has ever since provided rare and precious services to folks across Mercer County - from East Windsor to Hopewell, and from Princeton to Trenton.
Mercer Street Friends operate on five fronts:
1. Food Bank Established in 1987, the Food Bank receives and distributes more than 1.5 million pounds of food per year, which helps to feed over 17,000 low-income men, women and children in the area who reside in the towns of Mercer County and neighboring communities.
2. Home Health Care Mercer Street Friends offer compassionate, high quality homecare services provided by an exceptionally competent, well-coordinated interdisciplinary team. Registered Nurses provide case management for each individual admitted to service.
3. Youth Services Each year, Youth and Family Counseling work with 120 young people aged twelve to nineteen, and their families. The Center partners with other agencies to provide Student Assistance Services where therapists from Mercer Street Friends provide clinical services as a component of other programs that serve young people. The Center also offers the Back on Track program for young people ranging in age from 9 to 17 and the Urban Gateway Enhancement Program for young people ranging in age from 14 to 19. Finally they offer GED tutoring through a Basic Skills and Literacy program for adults.
4. Parent Support This program provides support and education for parents to help them recognize and respond to their children's physical and emotional needs in an appropriate and competent manner. Through home visitation, participating families learn skills and knowledge necessary to function as independent adults and to build a strong and loving family, in many cases breaking a cycle of abuse and neglect.
5. Children Services - Day Care and After School Care Early Childhood Education Centers, at 1201 West State Street and 1337 Hamilton Avenue, offer safe, nurturing, full-day experience for infants and toddlers. School-Age Child Care programs offer before- and after-school care in a safe, enriching environment at 6 elementary schools in Hamilton Township. Meanwhile Mercer Street Friends is the only provider of after-school care to the Special Services District schools of Mercer County. |

Beyond Mill Hill …. Where Next?? I’d be very wealthy today if I had a dollar each time someone said to me “We should have bought a house in Mill Hill in the early days”. Now that Mill Hill is fully restored, and celebrating its 40th House Tour(!), the most burning question is “Where Next?” Well here are some answers.

Trenton Ferry …. Next door to Mill Hill Close to Mill Hill is a new and exciting opportunity – and a must see for every visitor and admirer of all that has been achieved in Mill Hill. It has essential ingredients for successful rejuvenation and restoration: - Next door to a long established and well respected neighborhood (Mill Hill) and just a short walk from the train station. - Excellent housing stock - classic brick designs abound, from when it was one of the wealthiest parts of Trenton. - Determined community (South Trenton) who in the last 2 years have demonstrated clear leadership and purpose. They recently elected a dynamic young councilman who has helped to re-energize the neighborhood and restore its confidence and pride. - Attention and commitment of the City (and the State) who have overseen the building of Sovereign Bank Arena and Waterfront Park, which both straddle the neighborhood - as well as the pending Proforma project. - Designated Historic District (Trenton Ferry Historic District) - Good facilities and night life.
218 & 220 Mercer St (Mill Hill) The Labor Lyceum (Mill Hill) 211 - 221 South Clinton Ave
Come take a look …. down Trenton Ferry 3 established local developers are working alongside each other to bring the highest quality living to the Trenton Ferry Historic District. 39 new homes are being built, mostly renovation but some new construction, and a mix of condos and single family homes. Previous projects include: - The Labor Lyceum (Mill Hill) - 218 & 220 Mercer St (Mill Hill) - 211 - 221 South Clinton Ave The 3 developers are HHG, Roebling Development, and Centre St LLC.
